The Young Living Farm Keeps Expanding!
In
1998 we brought in a bumper crop of organic herbs from both our farms
in Mona, Utah, and St. Maries, Idaho. Peppermint yields came in at 96
pounds of essential oil per acre, and clary sage yields came in at 40
pounds of oil per acre for our younger fields, and 60 pounds for our more
mature growths. Of course, this is only the beginning. We are planning
to dramatically increase both the acreage of herbs under cultivation and
our distillation capacity. We are always preparing to distill new oils.
The
hardworking and dedicated manager of our Idaho farm, Monty Holmes, has
managed to secure an additional 400 acres of unspoiled land, which are
earmarked for wild tansy. He is also planting 20 acres of melissa--in
addition to over 100 acres of melissa that we have planted in Mona, UT.
At Mona, we had over 10 million herb starts in the ground by spring, with
over 1000 acres of lavender (Lavendula officinalis). Six new prefabricated
greenhouses were ordered from California, fully equipped with heating
and ventilation, to expand our winter herb-raising and seedling operations.
Our Utah distilleries which consisted
of eight functioning cookers: three 6800 liter units, one 6000 liter unit,
and four 4000 liter units have been increased by an additional 30 cookers,
which quadruple our distillation capacity. We also doubled the number
of cookers in Idaho from three to six.
And it gets even better. We are now
distilling pine, spruce and fir oil. We have contracted with several of
the largest tree farms in Idaho, Washington and Oregon, who are shipping
us raw material in the form of Christmas tree trimmings.
